Family Day Care is in the home of an Educator registered with a licensed Family Day Care Scheme, such as At Home Family Day Care Scheme. Educators are qualified and have to meet regulatory and schemes requirements, before being registered with a service. Family Day Care is a Government Approved Care Service.
Services and Educators must work within the National Quality Framework; the aim of The Framework is to raise the quality and consistency in education and care services through
- A set of National Quality Standards
- Education and Care National Law
- Education and Care National Regulations
- Early Years Learning Framework: Belonging, Being, Becoming
- School Age Care Framework: My Time Our Place
- A National Quality Rating and Assessment Process
Family Day Care Educators can care for up to four (4) children under school age (including any of their own under school age children) with a maximum of seven (7) children in care (including school aged children). These smaller groups allow a more open relationship with families about their children ensuring we all work collaboratively for the needs of the children.
Educators are resourced and supported in their home care environment by a team of qualified Coordinators and monitored through a system of monthly home visits, and with emails & phone contact and ongoing Professional Development Training opportunities during the month. Coordinators get to know your children during these visits, and will provide feedback to you about visits.
Family Day Care Educators offer children in their care a small group home based learning environment incorporating a range of activities and experiences which are designed to foster the individual development and interests of each child in their care. They provide play based learning experiences to suit the needs of each child.
Family Day Care has the ability to accommodate a range of child care needs. Family Day Care offers full time care, part-time care, before and or after school care, vacation care for school aged children during school holidays, evening hours and sometimes overnight or weekend care. This makes Family Day Care a flexible child care option and can be suitable for parents/carers whose hours are irregular, such as shift workers and weekend workers.
Eligible families may be entitled to claim a fee reduction in the form of Child Care Subsidy (CCS) whilst using Family Day Care with an Educator registered with At Home Family Day Care Scheme. CCS assist families with the cost of care. You can find out more and your eligibility at the Family Assistance Office (FAO) www.familyassist.gov.au or call 13 61 50
